A testimony from Ruth Whittall
W hen I first moved to Cheltenham I began to experience severe nightmares. These went on continuously to the point that I became afraid to sleep. The fear grew and the sensation of my dreams continued to torment me during my waking hours to the point that I was very fearful, tired and weary.
One night, even though I had tried to avoid sleep, I had a nightmare and when I awoke I was so frightened I was unable to move at all for quite a time. When I eventually braved getting up, the sensation and apparent reality of this dream stayed with me right until I reached work.
I arrived at work to be greeted by someone who immediately made a statement directly related to my nightmare. I got really distressed! The situation came to a head, my fears erupted and I fled the building to hide.
At that point the Lord broke through to me. He reminded me He had not given me a spirit of fear (2 Tim.1:7) and the devil was defeated. (Heb.2:14-15)
"For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind." 2 Timothy 1:7 - NKJVImmediately I decided if the Word of God was true then I must put it to the test and confront my fears and the situation in my nightmare.
I started to speak the Word of God and rebuke the devil, declaring that he had no power over me. (Luke 10:19) Instantly every sensation that had lingered from my nightmares - the apparitions, the fear and the torment - left me and a sound mind was restored!
We do not have to be subject to torment. I praise God that since then my sleep has been sweet. (Prov.3:24) I've even dreamt about angels and encounters with God.
May God bless you with freedom from fear and sweet sleep!
