The moment you invited Him in He came in and He brought with Him the Holy Spirit so that you could become one of His people - the generation of Jesus Christ.

You have received the Spirit of adoption [the Spirit producing sonship] in [the bliss of] which we cry, Abba (Father)! Father!

Romans 8:15 - Amplified Bible

God gave you Jesus as a seed - the seed of the new birth. He also gave you the Holy Spirit bringing water to bring life forth from that Seed in you! You, born as a child of God, were the result. You received life as a new creation at the presence of the Seed and the Water in your heart!

It will help you to see what happened to you if you think about a tree and a tree seed. The tree's seed contains within it the precise pattern of the parent tree. It will replicate that parent tree as long as there is water and the right soil. The Seed, Jesus, replicated the Father in you when the Holy Spirit added water to the soil of your heart. Your spirit instantaneously took on the image of the Father. You became His child - you came to look like the Father!

The Bible declares,

Clothe yourselves with that new and better self (the one born of God) which has been created to resemble God in the righteousness and holiness of the truth.

Ephesians 4:24 - Weymouth's Translation

A whole, complete, instantaneous spiritual transformation took place at your rebirth - you were spiritually transformed! The Holy Spirit saw the Imperishable Seed within you and, at this sight, washed you with His washing - His water - of regeneration and renewing.

By this, God saved you from death by giving you life as His child!

When the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour.
