Part 7: Receiving the Holy Spirit

(This is part 7 of 7 parts in this class)

How do you receive the Holy Spirit? Jesus said,

If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!

Luke 11:13 - NKJV

The Father gives the Holy Spirit to those Who ask Him and the Father sends the Spirit in the Name of Jesus. (As an addition to the verse above see also John 14:26.)

We are to ask for the Holy Spirit in the Name of Jesus and by believing we receive. As you will see from the verse above, that's all there is to it. There's no waiting, just believing you have received when you ask. You receive by faith.

(Note: Yes, the first disciples did have to wait; they were waiting for Jesus being exalted to the right hand of God [see Acts 2:33] but as this happened before the Day of Pentecost we don't have to wait as they did.)

Jesus said,

Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you. Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.

John 16:23-24 - NKJV

If you haven't already done so, ask now in the Name of Jesus for the Holy Spirit to come on you and live always in you. Pray in this way,

"Heavenly Father, in the Name of Jesus, I ask you to send your Holy Spirit to come upon me. I ask that I now receive your power by the Holy Spirit. I ask that the Holy Spirit come to live in me and be my heavenly Companion forever in life. Amen."

The moment you pray that prayer the Holy Spirit will come on you, ready to make your body His temple. (1 Cor. 6:19.) Honour Him by giving Him a place of great respect in your life. Allow Him to direct your life and have control in your life. In this way you will come to be a truly Spirit-filled, child of God.

Have you prayed the prayer above to ask the Lord for His Holy Spirit to come upon you? If so, let us know. We'd love to hear from you. You can let us know using the form below.
