G od's armour is functional, light and simple. In it you can "run against a troop and leap over a wall". (Ps.18:29)

God wants us to see ourselves in His armour. He wants us to have a mental picture of ourselves in His spiritual armour.

Picturing God's armour

It's important to check we are getting the right kind of picture. You shouldn't be picturing God's armour like the armour the fictional character Sir Lancelot wore. We ought to have a picture of it more like the armour the psalmist David and his mighty men wore! God's armour is given to us so we can be agile, victorious combat soldiers!

It is dynamic armour of this sort that Paul is picturing when he exhorts,

"Take up the whole armour of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand." Ephesians 6:13 - NKJV.

Taking a stand

You are called to stand in the whole armour of God. This stand isn't "stand" like in be rooted to the spot. It's "stand" like in take your stand for what is rightfully yours! The devil and his hosts of wickedness may come against you to try to steal, kill and destroy but in the whole armour of God you can take your stand for what is yours in Christ.

Christ at the cross and in the resurrection won for you a victory that you must treasure and fight to maintain or come into full possession of. Sometimes this will mean you'll run through a troop and leap over a wall. Whatever it takes, you'll do it that Christ's victory may remain yours!

As a Christian soldier in God's armour you are to have your wits about you. You are to be "sober and vigilant". (1 Peter 5:8) You are to do all a good soldier of Jesus Christ ought to do in order to maintain your position of victory in Christ!

John tells us in the Book of Revelation,

"They (the saints) overcame him (the devil) by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death." Revelation 12:11 - NKJV.

Take up and have on the whole armour of God! Do all you know to do as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. In all readiness and with every preparation take your stand for what is yours in Christ Jesus.
