| T | he word of God is very emphatic about you taking the helmet of salvation! |

Paul exhorts us in the Holy Spirit,
"Take the helmet of salvation." Ephesians 6:17 - NKJV.
God puts this in the imperative for good reason. It's because the devil targets our thinking. His primary attack route into our lives is through our heads.
The devil's primary aim in attacking us in this way is to get us out of agreement with God. He wants to deprive us of fulfilling, living communion with Him. The devil's objective in this type of attack is to get us into thinking that is contradictory to God's thinking.
Example in Peter's life
You only have to look at the incident with Peter rebuking Jesus to see that the devil can - for a time - be very successful with this kind of attack. Matthew reports to us,
"From that time Jesus began to show to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer...and be killed, and be raised the third day. Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, 'Far be it from You, Lord; this shall not happen to You!' But He turned and said to Peter, 'Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not minding the things of God, but the things of men." Matthew 16:23 - NKJV
In an attack on Peter's thinking the devil got him reacting according to the world's crude notion of how things should be instead of according to God's revelation of His will. This is being carnally minded instead of spiritually minded. This is why every believer must take the helmet of salvation!
Guarded by the helmet of salvation
The helmet of salvation safeguards you when you are attacked in your thinking. Whenever you are wearing it fully and properly carnal thinking will bounce off it.
The helmet of salvation will repel every disruptive thought with, "God will set things right. His Spirit will raise a standard against the enemy. Jesus will deliver me!" The helmet of salvation will confront every distressing thought with, "Nevertheless, no matter how things appear, God is working out my salvation!"
Wearing the helmet
The helmet of salvation becomes a full, working reality in your life when you come to a revelation of how great and absolute a salvation we have in Jesus!
This great salvation is outlined for us by the writer of Hebrews. In chapter two he tells us that the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit and the church have all - as one - acted for our complete deliverance in all realms of our existence. Hebrews 2:3-4.
This message of "so great salvation" is summed up wonderfully by Peter in his preaching to Cornelius and his household. He declared,
"How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed of the devil, for God was with Him. And we are witnesses of all these things which He did..." Acts 10:38-39 - NKJV
Jesus is still anointed by God with the Holy Spirit and with power to continue bringing about the same salvation in our lives today! (See Ephesians 5:23b and Hebrews 13:8)
The helmet of God's whole armour is your absolute confidence in God's salvation in Jesus to save you from whatever you need saving from - no matter what report the devil may be bringing to your ears!
Don't let the devil knock you out spiritually - wear your helmet of salvation!
