Let the Spirit tame your tongue

O n your own you are never going to be able to do anything about bringing your tongue under control.

You are going to have to let the Holy Spirit do it for you. James tells us,

The tongue no one in the human race is able to control.

James 3:8 - Expanded Translation.

Only the Holy Spirit - by His ministry to you and in you - can bring your tongue under control.

You are going to have to do a few things concerning the Holy Spirit. You are going to have to put the Holy Spirit in a position where He can get your tongue under control.

Firstly, you must receive the Holy Spirit. You must ask the Father in the name of Jesus to give you His Holy Spirit. You must request the same baptism of the Holy Spirit that the first disciples received on the day of Pentecost. At your request, God will pour out His Spirit on you. (Luke 11:13.)

Then, you must begin to do what is necessary for the Holy Spirit to fill your whole being. Paul in his letter to the Ephesians tells us exactly what action is needed. He wrote,

Be filled with the Spirit; speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord. Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

Ephesians 5:18-21.

Get yourself into a good, living church and get yourself wholly caught up with the other members in praise, worship and giving of thanks. By doing this you will be following Paul's exhortation and through it you'll be coming into the place where you are manifestly filled with the Holy Spirit.

In this way, you place the Holy Spirit in a position where He can tame your tongue. Now you can pray as David prayed,

Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.

Psalm 141:3 - KJV
