Good decision making

by Pastor Simon

Teach me Your way, O Lord, And lead me in a smooth path, because of my enemies.

Psalm 27:11 - NKJV

Christian life is a journey. It's a journey on which I'm desiring to know God's way forward. As a result I ask questions in prayer like, "What's the solution here, Lord? What action might I take?" On the basis of what I sense I'm getting as an answer I make decisions. Good decisions give me good plans which lead to good outcomes when I implement them.

Do you need help with decision making? If your life is complicated you've probably been making poor decisions. This is because a poor decision gives rise to new complications whereas a good decision solves things. How can you avoid making poor decisions? God's Word in the Bible gives plenty of counsel on this. God's people have always had to make decisions and down through the ages God by the prophets has demonstrated His care for us by providing the counsel we need.

Here's a list of points that will help you avoid making poor decision: 1.) Ponder scriptures that have something direct to say about the matter in which you need to make a decision. Use those scriptures as light for your decision making. Psa.119:105. 2.) Guard yourself against your own understanding and common understanding of how things ought to be done. God often has different ways. Let God's Word and His Spirit have the primary role in shaping your decision. Prov.3:5-6. 3.) Guard against haste. Decisions made in haste are rarely if ever good ones. Isa.28:16. 4.) Decision making is like bed making - it helps greatly to have someone on the other side. Make your decisions in consultation with other believers whenever and if at all possible. Mat.18:16.

Let good decisions carry you into God's wellbeing
