Generational Curses

A Christian friend wrote in an email about some ministry they had been receiving on the danger of Freemasonry. It sounded like some good things had been shared. However, within the teaching, reference was made to "the spirit of it behind it all" having power to "curse and destroy the family line for generations" or at least that's how my friend reported it.

I felt I'd better make comment. This topic of curses going from down the family line, that is, being passed from generation to generation quite frequently comes up in Christian circles. The Bible does tell us that consequences of sin can be visited on the children to the third and fourth generation. However, we all need to know that the Christian has come to a higher law that this, the law of redemption in Jesus Christ.

Below is what I wrote to my friend.

Related to what you wrote about the ministry on Freemasonry, thank God that when we come to Jesus we also come to redemption through His blood. Thank God that by His sacrifice as the Lamb of God He has redeemed us from the curse. Gal.3:13 - 14.

Here's how the apostle Paul reports this wonderful news to us,

Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree"*), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus.

Galatians 3:13 - 14 - NKJV

When a person comes to Jesus he or she comes to redemption from the curse - all curse, whatever the curse. Spiritually, after that nothing can cross the Blood line, the believer is redeemed eternally.

The report of the Bible is,

Knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things...but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.

1 Peter 1:18 - 19 - NKJV

However, it has to be noted, a person can be duped by the devil. They can be duped into accepting in their life what in fact they are redeemed from by the Blood of the Lamb. The Bible says of the devil,

Your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith.

1 Peter 5:8 - 9 - NKJV

In order to liberate and shield Christians from such deception, God has given us the Perfect Law of Liberty.

Living in the Perfect Law of Liberty is a must. Failure to do so leaves a believer open to the wiles (the strategies of deception) of the devil. A believer not living in the Perfect Law of Liberty can end up accepting manifestations of the curse from which in truth he has been redeemed from. Below are the words of Jesus outlining to us the Perfect Law of Liberty. Reflect on them fully so you can live them and enjoy the liberty that comes by them.

If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

John 8:31 - 32 - NKJV

Have you come to Christ and accepted Him as your Saviour? If that's the case, then you are redeemed. You are redeemed from the curse, all of it. Live in the liberty of redemption. Enjoy the peace of the everlasting covenant. Stand behind the Blood of the Lamb and refuse to accept manifestations of the curse. You have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the Righteousness. In the court of Heaven, plead the Blood and Jesus will rebuke the devil for you. 1 John 2:1.
