Part 1: New Birth

(This is part 1 of 6 parts in this class)

Let me tell you some wonderful news! You are a child of God because you have received Jesus! You are now a member of God's family. At this moment, having only just become a child of God, it will be difficult for you to fully grasp what has happened to you. Let me help you. I want to give you a picture - one you can hold in your heart; a picture of who you are in Christ. This picture - once you have it inside you - will change your expectations. You'll have a different outlook on life!

Use your imagination for a moment. Imagine suddenly history was changed and you - instead of having been born into an ordinary family - had been born into a powerful and wealthy family; a royal family.

Clearly - coming from such a family background - poverty and personal short-comings are not problems you know. Instead, as you come to terms with this historical change, you begin to realise how much everything has changed. You realize you are now the heir to a vast kingdom. You know, that would radically change the way you thought, the way you talked and even the way you walked!

In a very real way this has happened to you. The moment you received Jesus into your life the story of your life changed. Your story now says you have been born into a powerful and wealthy family. On your acceptance of Jesus you became a child of the most powerful of all families - God's family!

This is wonderfully declared to you in the epistle to the Hebrews,

Both the one who makes men holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers. He says, 'I will declare Your name to my brothers; in the presence of the congregation I will sing Your praises.'

Hebrews 2:11-12 - NKJV

Jesus is calling you brother or sister before the Father in Heaven because you and He are of the same family!
