Class 18: The Whole Armour of God!

Part 8: The girdle of truth!

(This is part 8 of 19 parts in this class)

As the girdle of an ancient soldier's armour protected his loins (midriff) so truth is to protect your sensitive areas when the devil attacks.

Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness.

Ephesians 6:14 - KJV

You can be sure of this - the devil doesn't fight clean. The Bible likens the devil to a wild dog - a wolf! He'll go for your belly if it's exposed. For this reason you're going to need to constantly have on that girdle of truth that God's armour provides.

Jesus demonstrated this for us in the wilderness. He came up against the devil who immediately attacked him in areas of weakness that normally characterise man - those sensitive appetites and wills of the flesh.

The Bible tells of these attacks. Of the first attack the Bible says,

Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, 'If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.' But He answered and said, 'It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God'.

Matthew 4:3-4 - NKJV

Jesus had his loins girded with truth. He knew the whole counsel of God. He knew the truth and voiced that truth. He covered with the truth the vulnerability of His human nature. This gave Him the protection that He needed.

This is how you are going to have to cover your human weak spots. You're going to have to know and voice the whole counsel of God. The word of God, in its entirety, is the truth. In knowing it and voicing it you are allowing truth to form a girding for your loins - a belt or girdle of truth! (John 17:17)
